LAHORE, Jan 02 : Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Jawan Bakht Hashim has said that the education is main focus of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government as poverty eradication is impossible without improving the literacy rate in the country. Chairing Annual Development Program (ADP) review meeting of the school education department here on Wednesday, Jawan Bakht Hashim said that the government will continue and complete the previous government education projects, besides initiating new projects in accordance of the PTI government policy. Minister for School Education Murad Raas, Chairman Planning and Development Department Habib-ur-Rehman Gillani, Secretary Finance Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh, Secretary School Education Zafar Iqbal and other official concerned attended the meeting. The Punjab Finance Minister instructed the department officials to complete Medium Term Budgetary Framework (MTBF) taking the all concern stakeholders on board for better planning and utilization of the resources. Further, the MTBF will helpful in future planning and preparation of the next fiscal budget, he added. Jawan Bakht Hashim asked that officials of school education department to utilize technical expertise of the finance, planning and development departments, along with international development partners of the Punjab government. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for School Education Murad Rass said that the first priority of the department to improve the dilapidated school buildings to end the fear of the parents, besides ensuring the missing facilities in the existing schools. He proposed increasing the class rooms in the primary schools of the lesser developed areas and new school buildings. Secretary School Education Zafar Iqbal briefed the meetings that the department so far utilized 48 percent of total allocated development budget under the ADP while further resources were required to complete the ADP schemes. He said timely release of the resources was required for timely completion of the projects.
